Remote Council Meetings

Following changes to legislation, Council meeting can be held remotely.

Since then, Babraham Parish Council has hed meetings remotely by Zoom.

Prior to legislation (posted 2 April 2020)

As of 30 March, we do not know how or whether we will hold our Council meetings (the next is due Thursday 9 April) or the Annual Parish Meeting (due Thursday 14 May).

In law in England, at least one quarter of members must be present and, to be quorate, our council must have three members present. The meeting must be open to allow participation of the public.

UK Government has not as yet made any provisions for remote meetings of Councils.

The Council can conduct certain business outside meetings, including payment of accounts up to certain values. Our Financial Regulations and Standing Orders explain this.

At present, we would be expected to hold our meeting, but we anticipate the situation will change.

We will make more frequent updates to this page of Council Actions. Members of the public can also request information by getting in touch with the Clerk.
